The FIDIC Yellow Book is FIDIC’s design and build document for projects where the Employer wishes to protect its interests by appointing an Engineer to supervise the overall construction of the Works notwithstanding that the overall responsibility for design lies with the Contractor. The document is currently being used for the construction of 2 of the World’s largest coal fired power stations, the Eskom Medupi and Kusile stations both of which will be capable of generating 4 800 Mw on completion. The Yellow Book forms part of FIDIC’s 1999 suite of contracts which documents have found wide acceptance in South Africa and Internationally as a result of the worldwide footprint of representation which FIDIC enjoys through its member associations in more than 100 countries. This document competes head on with the NEC suite of documents and the Yellow Book seminar will explain the way the contract is applied and draw comparisons and contrast the differences between this and construction of Employer designed Works using the Red Book.

Delegates who complete the course will achieve:

  • An understanding of the FIDIC Suite of Contracts, and how they fit into the South African Contracting Environment
  • An understanding of the Key Role Players in the FIDIC Yellow Book
  • Processes stipulated in the contract – for example, Entering into the Contract, Commencement & Completion
  • Stages of Completion
  • Provisions that all parties should consider

As is the case with all HKA seminars, this seminar is presented through practical examples and case studies. Delegates will be able to engage with the contracts, with the presenters and with other delegates.

Delegates who have not had very much experience in dealing with construction contracts will find this as useful and educational as those who have worked extensively in the management of construction contracts.

“Enjoyed the simple manner in which the course was presented. Great examples noted.”
“Presenter kept very well to time and never allowed seminar to ‘drag’ at any point.”
